eBay weirdness

Along with my eBay purchase of my Roomba, I bought an extra Virtual Wall. They seem to retail for about $40, so when I found one on eBay for $30 with free shipping, I selected the "Buy It Now". I paid the seller, and he emailed me back saying that he had to order it from his supplier but that I would get it soon.

I hate it when people eBay things they don't have, but OK, sure... whatever...

Last night, my Roomba arrived. And so did the Virtual Wall. I didn't recognize the Wall, because it came in an Amazon.com box. I figured, OK, so the guy re-used an Amazon.com box that he once had something shipped to him in.

No. It was shipped from Amazon.

I looked at the packing slip. It was billed to him but shipped to me. I looked at the numbers. It was a $40 Virtual Wall, plus about $5 shipping, and paid for by a "promotional certificate".

This has got me seriously confused. What's going on here? Is this some kind of money laundering, where Amazon certificates are turned into cash? Does anyone have an idea what happened?
