Churches and Ben Yehuda

Shabbos was nice. Friday night we got dropped off at a shul named Yedidya, traditional with nice Charlebach tunes. Then we walked back. Shabbos morning, a girl from an LA school and I went to the Shai Agnon synagogue. A bit more traditional than the one from Friday night, same prayers of course, but it didn't seem so make-shift like Yedidya felt like.

This evening we went to the Ticho house for dinner, looked through the museum, then we had the option of going to Ben Yehuda street. I generally never go on Saturday night, but figured what the heck. For dinner I'd put myself at a table I didn't know anyone (except one person) and asked everyone who they were. They were one of the groups from California, they were fun. Even though they'd gone to Masada and the Dead Sea this morning/afternoon, they were still up to going out. Since I'd been at their table and they seemed like fun, I figured it was an opportunity to get to know them better. So we just wandered back, it's a bit late (1:30am Israel time) and before I drop off I'm leaving a note to everyone to tell what's up.

Tomorrow is the church and Muslim day. Not sure yet how that's going to work. They're dividing the group into two parts and one group will visit the Christians in the morning and Muslims in the afternoon - the other group vise-versa. Church of the Holy Sepulchre (read: sculpture) is on the list. Last week we'd visited the Church of Holy Sion, but we didn't go into the church it6self. We spoke to one of the nuns, and saw the gardens they had there. Pretty place. I'm not clear what the story is tomorrow. Could be interesting. I spoke to Rabbi C' when I first got here on Monday and he said the Church is a no go. So that's that, no questions. Educational purposes weren't a good enough excuse to let me go. I'll try to update to let you all know the continuing news.

I'm having a good time. These people are a lot of fun. Some of them are Sunday morning/afternoon Hebrew school teachers, some are Hebrew/Judaica Jewish day school teachers, and some are general studies teachers at Jewish day schools. Gotta run to bed so I can get up in five hours (ha ha). Love you all.
