The Knee Saga
Tuesday I had a doctor's meeting. I was sent for x-rays, then I waited in the room for my doctor. I took my brace off and read the magazines in the room. Surprisingly (altho' I'm not sure if it is) the magazine had a conservative perspective. I took the card that was in there, and I'm thinking of getting a subscription. We'll see.
The exciting part of this story is that my doctor asked me if I felt like leaving the brace at the office and walking out without it. I was totally shocked and surprised, and my reaction was: Really?! So he checked out my knee, was happy with it and asked if I wanted a sleeve for it. The reason for the sleeve was that some people have trouble transitioning from having a full leg brace to nothing. I didn't take it for the reason that I didn't want to be dependent on it, and have something else I need to be weaned off of. The whole Dumbo and the feather story.
I was sooo excited about walking out braceless that I called my physical therapist from the hospital. I've been concentrated hard on walking like a normal person and keeping my legs underneath me and not swinging my left leg (the operated one) out like I still have that full leg brace still on. Today is three and half days since they took off the brace and it's definately getting easier. I don't have to concentrate so hard anymore.
I'm still very excited about this whole thing. Now my physical therapist and I are working on strengthening the leg since I lost muscle during this whole process. We're working on doing stairs and just muscle building. She says I should be fine for the summer.
Chodesh tov to everyone!
