My Continuing Adventures... (aka: My Knee)

It turns out that I have torn my ACL and my meniscuss. The ACL is the ligament that holds my knee stable and keeps it from going funny directions. The meniscuss...well, I don't know what it does, but I tore that too. The upshot is that I've scheduled the surgery for Thursday, March 16th, right after Purim. It was either Wednesday or Thursday, then I would have had to wait for April. After speaking to my doctor, in order for me to be good to go in July for Israel, I needed to start with this process sooner rather than later. The surgery itself doesn't seem like such a big deal (whatever!) but then I have 4-6 months of physical therapy. The surgery consists of using my hampstrings (10% of them) to rebuild the ACL. I'm not sure what else is going on in there, but I don't plan to be aware/awake for any of it.

In other news, I've been looking at prices for wireless internet and cable TV. I think that they must be joking. Time Warner has a deal going for 70 dollars for the two together. That's supposed to be a good price. Each part by itself is about 50 dollars, so I guess that would be a deal. At this point I'm thinking dial-up, but how depressing is that? And I'm not sure about this, but I heard that in some parts of the city, you can't get regular tv without a cable box. How does that make sense? At the moment I don't have a tv at all, and wireless embarrassingly enough I "borrow" from the neighbor. I think that now that I'm moving apartments that I'll still be without a tv (this was a conscious decision) and I'll go with dial-up. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

Well, if you can get DSL, the price is usually pretty good (I think I pay SBC $20/month) and it is really easy to set up.

Sorry to hear about the knee. I assume you will have to miss Leah M's wedding as well. Shoot me an email if you have the time.

Hey sis,
Sorry to hear about your double rip - way to go. Hey, if you're going to do a job, may as well do it well.
I'm kinda stressed out right now. That's the worst part of stress; it really just pops up outta nowhere and strangles you. I'm ready to tear my hair out. Wanna help me figure out when I worked at certain jobs?
Unfortunately, I will be in California until Sunday, Mar 20 so I will be missing your surgery. How long will you be in town?
I love you,
~Talya
ps. It's your "hamstring" not your hampstring, though I admit your spelling is a lot cuter.

I'm having the surgery in NY since it seems that the follow up is done by the surgeon. It'll be easier to do all that here (since I live here).

Talya, good luck. If I can help you let me know.

Hey Shira,
What d'you go an' do that for?
I assume it was a conscious decision to spend Purim looking like you're drunk and falling over then trying to blame your knee!!! i wish you a speedy recovery, I hope someone's looking after you post-surgery?
Let me know about the apartment move....
Oh and just why are you considering a TV???
hope all is well with you.
Good Shabbos
Aliza

It's a lot easier to watch 24 with a TV... and also easier to watch Conviction (boy was that good)... I may be addicted. :) Shira, please take care of yourself with the surgery - don't wobble too much afterwards.
