T608: A warning

My Sony Ericsson T608 finally came. I'm happy.

Just a word of caution. If you use iSync, feel free to let it put names on your phone. Just do not let iSync synchronize them back. There is a bug in iSync and the T608 that causes all the names of your company records to get lost (filed with Apple as rdar://3518487).

I found the same thing. Very annoying. But how do you keep iSync from synchronizing them back, short of syncing once and never again?

Where did you get your T608? Can't find this CDMA version anywhere....

John:

Either...

1. Remove the T608 from the device list or
2. Click the T608, and turn off synchronization for it.

Thanks for the URL. I'm actually a Verizon user, but I've heard rumors that most any CDMA phone will work w/Verizon (if you whine at them sufficiently).

I wonder if Sprint will sell me the phone sans contract...?

If you've seen any other means of distribution, I'd be obliged!

Dave

Sure they will. In fact, I bought mine sans contract and just swapped handsets on my account with no contract extension. Just pay the $199.

The big problem you will have is that Verizon will need the MSL to do the programming of the handset, and Sprint is unlikely to give it to you.

Avi

I ran into this and just turned off contact syncing, leaving iCal sync in place. YMMV.

>> Verizon will need the MSL to do the programming

Sorry, but what's "MSL"? I know there's an 'ESN', but what's MSL?

Thanks!

Dave

The MSL is the Master Subsidy Lock. Providers like Sprint, Verizon, etc. usually sell phones at below cost, and make up the difference during the life of the plan (thus contracts). To prevent someone with walking away with a fully-functional phone right off the bat, Sprint locks their phones with an MSL.

The MSL is a 6-digit number required to program the phone. Only Sprint knows it, and won't usually tell (though you can sometimes trick a rep into saying). Without that code, you can't take the phone to another provider since they won't be able to program it for their systems.

Well I got off the phone with a Verizon CSR, and they said that there is absolutely no way they even "could" activate a non-specifically-blessed phone (i.e. if they don't sell it, no dice). Claimed they couldn't do it even if they wanted to (according to them, differences in their netowork vs. Sprint's, but perhaps it's really due to this 'MSL').

Too bad. Guess there's just no option for Verizon users (a shame as they seem to have the best network).

Thanks for the clarification...

Dave

You apparently CAN use the T608 on Verizon:
